Gov. Ron DeSantis signed a bill Friday making that crime a second-degree felony punishable by up to 15 years in prison.
It was previously a third-degree felony punishable by up to five years in prison.
-work begins next month on a three-year project to rebuild the Southwest First Street drawbridge over the Miami River.
The bridge will be closed starting May 20 and reopened in June 2022, according to the Florida Department of Transportation.
