Get ready for another toilet paper shortage. Walmart officials say several of their stores around the country have been overwhelmed by shoppers who are stocking up in anticipation of another shutdown. I remember when this all started thinking why are people stocking up on toilet paper, this can’t be real. That was until I went out to the store and saw for myself. Living in South Florida all these years we know how to prep but I’ve never seen hording to this scale. I’ve seen pictures from places like Detroit and Philly where shelves have already been cleared and personally it’s a scary sight to see.
“It really does have everything to do with what’s happening with COVID cases in any particular community,” says CEO Doug McMillon. “I was in stores last week, and I saw variance from one state to the other, one location to the other. It just depends on how people are feeling in that moment.”
Some grocery chains – like Kroger, Publix and Wegmans – have already brought back purchasing limits on such products as toilet paper, disinfecting cleaners and hand sanitizer.
Google has looked into how things like shopping, driving, and eating out have changed amid the pandemic.
They found grocery stores tend to be the busiest on Saturday afternoons between 1-3 p.m. while Mondays around 8 a.m. are the least crowded.
For restaurants: busiest times are Fridays at 6 p.m. while Tuesdays at 3 p.m. are practically empty.
Google also noted that interest in the term "takeout" has increased by about 306% since the pandemic started.
