ICYMI: Broward County Bans ALL Bookbags for Final 3 days of Schools....

Broward County School Officials sent out an email on Sunday night making parents aware of a new policy temporarily banning backpacks for the final 3 days of the school year.

Officials said they chose to implement the ban out of an "abundance of caution" following the Robb Elementary shooting in Uvalde Texas almost two weeks ago along with multiple incidents in and around South Florida over the past week involving students and handguns.

There was also another incident at Somerset Academy in Parkland. It was reported that a box of loaded guns ended up inside the school and were found unattended in a locked room. Investigators confirmed that the guns did in fact belong to Principal Geyler Castro, however, they were never intended to enter the school and had been unknowingly been removed from the principals vehicle along with multiple other items. It's a felony to carry a gun into a school building in Florida.

It's unclear as to whether or not prosecutors intend to press/file charges against her.

The backpack ban will be enforced Tuesday (6.07) thru Thurs (6.09), and applies to students in ALL grade levels at every school in the district.
