Federal prosecutors are requesting to delay Ryan Routh's trial.

Trump-appointed Judge Aileen Cannon this week set the start date of November 18th for the trial of the man accused in the attempted assassination of the former president at his West Palm Beach golf course.

The trial is set to take place in Fort Pierce. But prosecutors call the case "unusual and complex."

In a court document, they note the U.S. government has "worked diligently since September 15th" to investigate the assassination attempt, interviewing hundreds of witnesses.

They say the investigation has also uncovered hundreds of items including multiple electronic devices through more than a dozen search warrants served in Florida, Hawaii and North Carolina.

Routh pleaded not guilty to several charges, including attempted assassination of a major presidential candidate and assaulting a federal officer.
