Ex-Girlfriend Arrested After Shooting, Threats in Lauderhill

Lauderhill, FL - A Lauderhill man was shot by his ex-girlfriend who allegedly sent him threatening text messages following the shooting.

Sabrina Shawnice Copeland, 31, of Boca Raton, now faces charges of attempted murder and burglary.

According to police reports, officers responded to a shooting at the Environ apartment complex.

The victim, who sustained a gunshot wound to the arm, declined to answer questions and signed a waiver of prosecution upon arrival at the hospital.

The situation took a turn later that afternoon when Copeland allegedly sent the victim a photo of his current girlfriend sleeping, accompanied by threatening messages.

These messages, police say, included statements like "I'll smoke you bro" and claims that the victim was "dead to her."

Faced with these threats, the victim reportedly contacted detectives and provided his account of the events.

He stated Copeland had texted him outside their apartment, where they argued about their recent break-up.

The argument escalated, and Copeland allegedly fired a shot before entering the apartment uninvited, stealing money, and taking a photo of the victim's girlfriend.

Copeland has claimed self-defense, stating the victim attempted to take her gun. She was released on bond after posting $57,500. The case continues.
