The mother of the Miami Gardens foster child who committed suicide on Facebook Live is objecting to the findings of a report from the Florida Department of Children and Families that partly blames her. Gina Alexis told WPLG that she believed the video of her daughter hanging in a foster care bathroom in January was "a hoax."
She also confirmed to the Miami TV station that she did indeed post disparaging comments on the feed of her daughter hanging herself, where she commented that the 14-year-old was "a jit" and "crying wolf."
She said the comments were intended to be tough love and no malice was intended, until she realized the girl did indeed kill herself.
DCF found Naika Venant suffered mental illness brought on by child sexual abuse, being bullied from peers and shuffled in the state foster system.
