UPDATE: Shots Fired Near Capitol, One Suspect in Custody

UPDATE: 3-29-2017 10:34 a.m.

No injuries are reported after a violent incident near the U.S. Capitol.  Shots were reportedly fired after a female suspect struck a Capitol Police cruiser.

Capitol Police spokeswoman Eva Malecki said the woman was driving erratically and she called it a criminal act.  She added there appears to be no link to terrorism.

The incident unfolded near the Rayburn House Office building, which is across the street from the Capitol, and the U.S. Botanic Garden. The scene of the incident is cordoned off but vehicular traffic is moving nearby.

With warmer weather, this is a period of high tourist activity in Washington, DC and the Capitol is a top tourist attraction.  The Capitol complex is one of the most heavily-secured areas of the U.S.
