(Miami, FL) -- Former Miami-Dade County school board member Raquel Regalado is running for Congress.
The failed 2016 Miami-Dade mayoral candidate told the "Miami Herald" yesterday that she intends to run in 2018 to replace retiring Miami Republican Congresswoman Ileana Ros-Lehtinen, who is declining to a 16th consecutive bid to the U.S. House of Representatives after nearly 28 years of incumbency.
The Republican Regalado is running for the seat in heavily Democratic Miami-Dade County, and Democratic political insiders are seeking to flip the seat long held by the respected Cuban-American Ros-Lehtinen.
Regalado, who is also Cuban-American, is the daughter of Miami Mayor Tomas Regalado.
